MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income)
AGI plus certain add-backs — used to determine eligibility for many tax benefits.
Why it matters
MAGI adds back things like student loan interest deduction and foreign income exclusion, depending on the benefit being tested. The exact modifications differ per credit, so "MAGI for X" isn't always the same number as "MAGI for Y".
