AUM fee
A percentage-of-assets fee an advisor charges — typically 1% per year.
Why it matters
AUM fees compound like an expense ratio. 1% per year over 40 years costs roughly a quarter of your ending portfolio value. Fee-only advisors may charge flat fees instead, which don't scale with your balance.
